More than three years of work were necessary to write this book, given the richness of its content and illustrations.
Its great strength lies in being a work of truth, thanks first of all to the involvement of the Reverend Father of the Grande Chartreuse. He opened and worked on his personal archives, thus allowing the reconstruction of the authentic history, "dusted off" from what oral tradition has long conveyed or maintained in an approximate manner.
Through this book, the working group (composed of former executives of Chartreuse Diffusion and friends of the Carthusians) wanted to offer everyone: the curious, enthusiasts, tourists, and collectors, the true epic of the liqueur.
An unprecedented experience of the working group was used to enrich the book, as well as the testimonies of the former members of the Grande Chartreuse, giving a great deal of soul to this work.
The exceptionally high-quality photographs were taken by Stéphane Couchet, a photographer based in the Chartreuse region who managed to capture the depth and grandeur of the Grande Chartreuse monastery, portray the authenticity of the Carthusian monks, and bring the Chartreuse bottles and flasks to life.
A complete and unique bottle catalog is presented at the end of the book. It is the result of extensive work based on the precious notes left by a former distilling brother, Brother Marie Bernard.
Contents:
Foreword by the Reverend Father, complete history from the origin (1605) to the present day, testimonies from 3 former executives of Chartreuse Diffusion, the great future of the liqueur, an illustrated booklet of Chartreuse bottles throughout history.
