Description

When visiting Marcel Lapierre in Villié-Morgon, Sébastien Lapaque sought to shed light on the approach of one of the main inspirers of French winemakers who have turned away from bloated and standardized wines to produce flavorful and natural wines. At a time when their "new wave" wines were gaining popularity in wine shops, bistros, and even at Michelin-starred restaurants, the winemaker and the writer together retraced an amazing adventure that began in the late 1970s. Several decisive encounters and a new understanding of wine hygiene and microbiology led Marcel Lapierre to return to working the land and to set aside insecticides, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers to bring into the cellar grapes full of vital energy that he endeavored year after year to vinify without oenological cosmetics. With a declared objective: to fight against those who are determined to "erase the memory of taste."Sébastien Lapaque was born in Tübingen on February 2, 1971. A novelist (Les barricades mystérieuses, 1998, Actes Sud - Les idées heureuses, 1999, Actes Sud), essayist (Georges Bernanos encore une fois, Actes Sud 2002 - Sous le soleil de l'exil, Georges Bernanos au Brésil, 1938-1945, Grasset 2003 - Il faut qu'il parte, Stock 2008 - Sermon de saint François d'Assise aux oiseaux et aux fusées, Stock 2008), he is a literary critic at Le Figaro. He was awarded the François Mauriac Prize from the French Academy in 2000, the Goncourt de la Nouvelle Scholarship in 2002, and the James-Hennessy Prize in 2004.
