Description

Michel Dovaz, Chantal Lecouty, Michel Martini, Steven Spurrier The oldest vineyard in France regains its place among the best wines in the country. Consumers, oenophiles are poorly informed about it. Many even wonder if there are wines from Corsica. But they do exist. They have existed for twenty-five centuries. They exist because the land and climate of Corsica are remarkably suitable for vine cultivation. They exist because in this particular environment specific grape varieties have developed. Finally, they exist because they assert distinctive qualities that individualize them. They have a soul. The principle of this work is that of an encyclopedia, which prohibits choice or selection. All Corsican wines are described here. By "all wines" we mean all wines with controlled designation of origin produced on the island, having been labeled and bottled by the producer. Muscats have been added. They cannot claim a controlled designation of origin. Their status is poorly defined. But they could not be ignored. Their evident quality, the long tradition of which they are living testimony, implies their presence in a book dedicated to Corsican wines and vineyards. Each wine has a technical sheet. These sheets are not read, they are consulted. The information they provide always has a close relationship with the wine, its style, quality, destiny or use, starting with the grape variety, the age of the vines, their density, but also the rootstocks that feed them more or less generously.
