A poor employee has a taste for wine. But the times are tough, and he lacks the means to satisfy his passion. A dream crosses and haunts one of his nights: from two fountains of abundance, wine flows abundantly. The unfortunate man, pursued by his obsession, then considers his fellows in the form of wine bottles. He will end up in a mental asylum, condemned to Vittel water. Such is the subject of one of the stories in this famous collection, which also includes "L'indifférent," "Traversée de Paris," "La grâce," "Dermuche," "La fosse aux péchés," "Le faux policier," and "La bonne peinture."
