Description

The history of Médoc began long before the cultivation of the vine. Dust of islands scattered in the vast estuary of the Gironde, much more advanced towards the west than today and carved with coastal estuaries, Médoc early on attracted interest from merchant ships, even before the Bronze Age. The largest estuary in Europe brought both fortunes and misfortunes throughout history, and the rise of its vineyard made it a universally known region. This long history is vividly recounted by Marie-José Thiney.
