This enclave north of Cognac has been the smallest of the six Cognac crus since 1938. The Borderies have managed to develop and maintain a beautiful and strong viticultural identity with the vineyards. What seems to characterize this territory well is both the variety of its landscapes and their composition of gentleness and intimacy. The regular layout of a ubiquitous vineyard is overlaid with the permanence of softened hillsides, secret valleys, and modest groves. The whole area is covered with meadows, clearings nestled in magnificent forests dominated by oak and chestnut trees. In the valleys, the peaceful Antenne river flows, along with modest streams fed by beautiful springs that gush here and there. At the end of the white paths, behind a screen of trees, one can make out the whitewashed wall of a house with a roof the color of fire. Let yourself be guided by these winding shrubby hedges and dry stone walls guarding many secrets. (based on the introduction by Jean-Jacques Vidal)
As part of the Inventaire des Territoires collection (François Baudez editions), this small encyclopedia dedicated to the Borderies is designed like the previous ones—Talmont-sur-Gironde and its surroundings, La Grande Champagne in the heart of cognac, La Seudre unveiled: an alphabetical list of articles from A to Z, complemented by special sections where chronicles, interviews, and portraits delve deeper into some of the topics covered in the first part. The book is written by a group of authors.
