Description

Welcome to Saint-Denis, charming village of Dordogne, where life seems peaceful… until the day when the body of Hamid, a former French soldier, is discovered brutally murdered. The mutilated torso, marked by a Swastika, suggests a racist crime that is shaking the local community.

The National police quickly takes over the matter, relegating Bruno Courrèges, head of the municipal police, in the background. But Bruno, a connoisseur of his region and its inhabitants, cannot remain idle. He decides to conduct his own investigation in the shadows, between extremist groups, , ancient secrets and troubling silences.

In this French noir novel, Martin Walker delights us with a plot mixing police officer, , local history, , local cuisine - notably the famous Walnut wine - and societal reflections. It evokes the warm and subtly critical atmosphere of a rural France marked by its contemporary tensions.

Translated from English by Serge Cuilleron, , Murder in Périgord is part of the series of Bruno's investigations, whose humanity, finesse, and sense of justice make him a hero close to the Commissioner Maigret.
