The Memoirs of Marcelin Albert, charismatic leader of the 1907 winegrowers' movement in the South of France, constitute an exceptional document, long unavailable, now carefully reissued by the Marcelin Albert Association on the occasion of the centenary of the events.
Through this text written in his own hand, Marcelin Albert intends to defend himself against the attacks he was targeted with after the tragic turn of the revolt. Accused of treason, mocked by the supporters of Deputy Ferroul — whom he himself nicknames the "féroulistes" and the "sous-féroulistes argelliersois" — he never had the opportunity to officially publish his explanations.
This notebook no. 2 published by the association in 2004 compiles 181 pages of powerful texts, fueled by anger, disappointment, but also the political conviction of someone who was nicknamed the "Christ of the vine". This raw, unfiltered testimony restores the voice of a man often caricatured but whose sincere commitment in favor of small winegrowers deserves to be reconsidered.
This edition in A4 format (21 x 29 cm) allows for comfortable reading of this historical document, with a layout faithful to the spirit of the original manuscript. It constitutes a valuable tool for researchers, regional history enthusiasts, or even lovers of committed viticultural culture.
A work to (re)discover, to understand the deep mechanisms of a social and agricultural crisis that remains current, and to honor the memory of a man of honor whom history has not always managed to rehabilitate.
